Infosys Added 8,203 Employees in the September 2025 Quarter

Infosys, India's second-largest IT services company, bucked the tech industry's layoff trend in late 2025 with aggressive hiring that added 8,203 employees in the quarter ended September 30, 2025. The expansion pushed Infosys' total headcount to 331,991 and marked a sharp turnaround from the six straight quarters of workforce reductions Infosys went through in 2023 and 2024. Update (October 2026): according to Outlook Business, Infosys had 328,062 employees as of June 30, 2026, down 532 from 328,594 at March 31, 2026 but up from 323,788 a year earlier.

The hiring momentum signals Infosys' confidence in sustained demand for IT services even as tech giants worldwide continue cutting staff. While competitors and global technology companies slash workforces to reduce costs, Infosys was actively recruiting both experienced professionals and fresh college graduates - positioning itself to capture market share and meet growing client needs.

Chief Financial Officer Jayesh Sanghrajka said on the October 2025 press call that Infosys had already hired more than 12,000 freshers in the first half of the fiscal year and was "well on our track to hire close to 20,000 this year." That is up from the 15,000 to 20,000 range the company had guided for the previous year.

"We are already at 85% utilization. And we also onboarded 12,000 freshers. So, that just talks about the visibility that we have in our business," Sanghrajka said on the Q2 FY26 earnings call.

Utilization, excluding trainees, was 85.1% in the quarter, according to the company's fact sheet. That measures how much of employees' available time is billed to clients, and it indicates Infosys has little spare capacity. High utilization typically signals strong demand and justifies continued hiring to avoid overworking existing staff and maintain service quality for clients.

The Contrast With Industry Peers

Infosys' hiring spree stands in stark contrast to its primary Indian competitor. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India's largest IT services firm, saw its headcount drop by 19,755 employees in the same quarter, to 593,314, according to Business Today. The divergence between the two companies' workforce strategies reflects different assessments of market conditions and growth prospects.

While TCS contracts its workforce, Infosys is expanding - suggesting the companies face different demand dynamics or are making different strategic bets about the future. Infosys may be winning new client contracts that TCS isn't securing, or the companies may be pursuing different service areas with varying labor intensity.

The hiring also continues a recovery in Infosys' own workforce. Headcount fell for six straight quarters through mid-2024. In the quarter ended June 30, 2024 (Q1 FY2025), Infosys shed 1,908 employees, according to its fact sheet for that quarter. Comparing it with the September 2025 fact sheet, headcount rose from 315,332 in June 2024 to 331,991 in September 2025.

The earlier decline was steep. The same fact sheet shows the workforce fell from 336,294 employees in June 2023 to 315,332 in June 2024, about 21,000 fewer people in a single year.

Campus Hiring Returns in Force

Infosys' renewed focus on campus recruitment marks a significant development for India's engineering graduates. The company sharply curtailed campus hiring in FY2024 (the year to March 2024), recruiting nearly 11,900 college graduates, a 76% decline from the more than 50,000 freshers hired the previous year, according to its annual report as quoted by Goodreturns. That pullback left thousands of engineering students who expected offers from Infosys scrambling for alternatives.

Now the campus recruitment engine has restarted. Infosys is visiting engineering colleges across India, conducting placement drives, and extending offers to graduating students. The goal of hiring close to 20,000 freshers in FY2026 represents a substantial recovery, though still well below the 50,000-plus hired in FY2023.

For Indian engineering students, Infosys' return to campuses provides welcome relief. The company's recruitment creates opportunities for Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics, and related engineering graduates to secure employment with one of India's most prestigious technology employers.

The company recruits from tier-1 engineering colleges like IITs, NITs, and BITS Pilani, but also casts a wide net to tier-2 and tier-3 institutions across India. This broad recruitment strategy allows Infosys to build a diverse talent pool while giving opportunities to graduates from less prestigious institutions who demonstrate strong technical skills.

Off-campus hiring complements the campus strategy, targeting experienced professionals and graduates who missed campus placements. Infosys' careers portal lists open positions across service lines including application development, infrastructure management, business analysis, testing, and emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and cloud computing.

What's Driving Infosys' Hiring?

Several factors explain why Infosys was hiring aggressively in 2025 while much of the global tech sector contracted:

Strong financial performance: Infosys reported that net profit rose 13% from a year earlier to about ₹73.6 billion in Q2, according to its results release, demonstrating healthy business fundamentals that support workforce expansion. When companies are profitable and growing revenue, they can afford to invest in people.

Digital transformation demand: Enterprises worldwide continue investing in digital transformation, cloud migration, AI implementation, and cybersecurity - all services that Infosys provides. This demand hasn't disappeared despite economic uncertainty, creating sustained need for IT services talent.

Competitive positioning: By hiring while competitors cut staff, Infosys can attract top talent that might otherwise join rivals. The best engineers and consultants have options - when one major employer is laying off while another is hiring, the hiring company gains recruiting leverage.

Client project wins: Infosys reported large deal wins worth $3.1 billion in the quarter, 67% of it net new business, according to the same results release. New contracts create billable work that requires additional staff.

Utilization pressure: At about 85% utilization, Infosys is running hot. While high utilization improves profitability short-term, it creates burnout risk and limits flexibility to staff new projects. Hiring alleviates this pressure by distributing work across more employees.

AI-first strategy: Infosys has positioned itself as an "AI-first, digital-first, cloud-first" partner. Implementing this strategy requires people who can build AI solutions, manage cloud infrastructure, and drive digital transformation for clients. The company is hiring to build these capabilities.

Attrition Remains Stable

Infosys' voluntary attrition rate held largely steady at 14.3% in Q2, compared with 14.4% in the previous quarter, according to its fact sheet, suggesting the company is retaining existing employees while adding new ones. Attrition measures the percentage of employees who leave voluntarily, typically for better opportunities elsewhere.

A 14.3% attrition rate means Infosys replaces roughly 14 out of every 100 employees annually. That is below the 17.3% Infosys reported for the 12 months to June 2023, when IT workers were still moving between companies more often.

Stable attrition combined with net hiring means Infosys is growing its workforce organically - not just replacing departing employees. The 8,203 net additions in Q2 represent new capacity beyond what's needed to backfill exits, indicating genuine expansion rather than just treading water.

For employees, stable attrition suggests Infosys is maintaining competitive compensation and career development opportunities. When attrition spikes, it signals workers are finding better alternatives elsewhere. When it stabilizes or declines, it indicates employees are reasonably satisfied with their current situation.

What This Means for Job Seekers

For Indian tech workers and engineering graduates, Infosys' hiring spree creates tangible opportunities:

Fresh graduates: Campus and off-campus hiring offers entry points for recent engineering graduates. Check Infosys careers for fresher opportunities and application deadlines.

Experienced professionals: Infosys is hiring across experience levels, not just entry-level roles. Mid-career professionals with 3-10 years experience in software development, cloud, AI, or consulting can find opportunities.

Specific skills in demand: Cloud computing (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), artificial intelligence/machine learning, data engineering, cybersecurity, and SAP/Oracle enterprise software skills appear in high demand based on open positions.

Multiple locations: Infosys operates development centers across India - Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, Delhi NCR, and other cities - offering geographic flexibility for candidates.

Career growth: Infosys' expansion suggests opportunities for rapid career advancement. When companies grow headcount aggressively, they create more leadership and specialist positions for high performers to fill.

The hiring also indicates optimism about India's IT services sector despite global economic headwinds. If Infosys - a bellwether for the industry - is confident enough to add thousands of employees, it signals that demand for offshore IT services remains robust even as Western economies face uncertainty.

For the 8,203 new employees who joined in Q2 and the thousands more Infosys plans to hire, the opportunity comes with the prestige of working for one of India's best-known technology employers.
