India topped ManpowerGroup's Q1 2025 hiring outlook at +40%, 15 points above the global average, with IT leading at +50%. See the sectors and regions hiring.

The Great Indian Job Surge
India took the global top spot for hiring outlook in Q1 2025. The ManpowerGroup Employment Outlook Survey, released on December 10, 2024, found India’s Net Employment Outlook (NEO) was +40%, exceeding the global average by 15 points. The survey asked 40,413 employers across 42 countries about their hiring plans for the first quarter.
If you’re in India or thinking about relocating, that is a good reason to polish your résumé.
What’s Driving the Hiring Spree?
So, what gives? The IT sector, a cornerstone of the Indian economy, was the strongest hiring sector with an outlook of +50%. ManpowerGroup India’s Managing Director Sandeep Gulati said significant investments in artificial intelligence, along with public funding, had benefitted the IT job market.
Other sectors were strong too. Financials and Real Estate came second at +44%, followed by Consumer Goods and Services at +40% and Energy and Utilities and Health Care and Life Sciences at +38% each. Industrials and Materials, which includes much of manufacturing, saw a slight dip to +35%.
By region, West India had the strongest outlook at +43%, followed closely by East India at +41%. Larger companies drove much of the hiring, with firms of 250-999 and 5,000+ employees reporting the highest outlook at +48%.
Key Insights for Job Seekers
In the Q1 2025 survey of more than 3,000 Indian employers, 53% planned to hire, 13% expected to cut staff and 31% expected no change.
But here’s the kicker: those companies aren’t just looking for any warm body to fill a chair. Employers are becoming increasingly picky about skill sets. Digital proficiency, analytics expertise, and experience in emerging tech are now non-negotiable.
Current job-seeking trends show that candidates who can adapt to hybrid work environments and showcase strong collaboration skills are the ones who will snag those coveted positions.
Additionally, the rise of remote work means job seekers are no longer limited to their geographical locations. Applicants from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities can now realistically apply for roles at high-profile metro employers, all from the comfort of their own chai-pulling, internet-accessing homes.
