BYD Is Hiring 8,000+ Factory Workers in Xi'an, and New Hires in Two Plants Can Earn Bonuses up to 6,000 Yuan

BYD is recruiting more than 8,000 workers across several plants and business divisions at its Xi'an production base in northwest China, and new hires at two of its factories can earn a joining bonus of up to 6,000 yuan. The notices were posted on official platforms by the Xi'an municipal human resources and social security bureau and by the Xi'an High-tech Zone human resources industry association. The roles are mainly front line skilled factory jobs, including vehicle assemblers, welding line workers, painting line workers, welders and electricians, and pay for skilled positions can reach 10,000 yuan a month. How Many Workers Is BYD Hiring in Xi'an, and Where?

The notices put the drive at more than 8,000 people across multiple plants at the same time. A recruiter for the company's Division 2 expects the total to come close to 10,000, which is that recruiter's estimate rather than a posted number.

The work is spread over five factory sites. The recruitment notice lists the High-tech, Xixian, Jixian, Caotang and Pangguan sites as places of work, with the second, eleventh and fourteenth divisions among the business units hiring. If you live in the city, your commute depends on which site you are placed at, so it is worth asking for the site before you accept an offer.

There is no closing date. In the account of the Division 2 recruiter, the drive runs until every place is filled.

Local government and industry bodies advertised the campaign, and the incentives of up to 6,000 yuan are offered to successful applicants. The relevant departments are also drafting reward and subsidy policies for bulk recruitment to help fill the places faster.

Where Can You Find the Official Notice?

The notice was published on the WeChat account of the Xi'an human resources bureau, and the High-tech Zone human resources industry association also carried recruitment information on its official platform. The bureau's post is the place to read the posted list of roles and sites.

When you read the notice, match your trade to the division first. The notice names several of the business units that are hiring, and their processes and products differ, as the next section sets out.

Which Roles Are Being Filled, and What Does Each Division Make?

The car making arm, known as Division 11, handles the four core car making processes of stamping, welding, painting and final assembly, plus interior trim and body structure parts. The division builds cars from the Dynasty and Ocean lines as well as the Yangwang, Fangchengbao and Denza brands. For a welder or an assembler, this is the division where those skills apply most directly.

The battery arm works on a different product. It covers the full battery chain, with products spanning consumer electronics batteries, power batteries and energy storage, along with battery management systems, relays, capacitors and fuses. An electrician or a worker with electronics assembly experience may find a closer fit here than on a car line.

The skill mix is a large part of this round. The drive goes beyond general workers, and skilled roles in welding, painting and final assembly make up a high share of it, in the view of Feng Lei, head of the HSMAP industrial research institute. He reads the pay and bonus levels as a sign that the base is competing for skilled line workers.

The posted trades in the recruitment notice include vehicle assemblers, welding line workers, painting line workers, welders and electricians. The notice also names the fourteenth division among the units hiring, but the published coverage does not describe what that division makes, so applicants interested in it can ask the recruiter directly.

Applicants can read the site list against their home address. The five named sites, High-tech, Xixian, Jixian, Caotang and Pangguan, are spread across the base, so the same trade can mean a different daily journey depending on the site you are placed at.

Why Does the Xi'an Base Matter to BYD?

Xi'an is where BYD's car making business began. The city is also the company's largest single vehicle production base in China and an important power battery manufacturing base. The base has grown through several expansions into parks at High-tech, Caotang, Jixian and Xixian, with planned annual capacity of 1.5 million vehicles.

A wholly owned BYD subsidiary in Xixian New Area won land use rights twice in 2025, and the second plot is designated for power battery production and expansion.

The base also accounts for a large share of the province's car output. In 2025, BYD's Xi'an plants produced nearly six in ten of the vehicles made in Shaanxi, on figures from the Shaanxi Automobile Industry Association. BYD chairman and president Wang Chuanfu has described Xi'an as the city, apart from the Shenzhen headquarters, where the company has its widest business presence and the most areas of cooperation. Feng noted that BYD's 17 millionth new energy vehicle rolled off the line in Xi'an on 8 July this year.

What Is the Pay, and What Is Shaanxi's Minimum Wage?

Monthly pay reaches as high as 10,000 yuan, and a Division 11 recruiter gave welding as the example, with welding workers able to earn up to 10,000 yuan a month once they are on the line. The 10,000 yuan figure is the highest posted monthly pay.

The legal floor is set by the province. Shaanxi raised its monthly minimum wage to 2,376 yuan in its top band, with a second band of 2,250 yuan and a third of 2,140 yuan, from 1 January 2026. The hourly minimum for part time work is 23 yuan in the top band. The top band covers 19 districts and counties, including Xi'an's Xincheng district, while Xi'an's Huyi district sits in the second band.

The provincial human resources department has told local departments to step up checks on employers' compliance so that workers providing normal labour are paid no less than the local minimum.

Ask how the monthly pay is made up, including base wage, overtime and shift pay.

How Does the 6,000 Yuan Bonus Work?

The joining bonus of up to 6,000 yuan applies to new hires at the welding and final assembly factories, a Division 11 recruiter explained. In the recruiter's account, only new hires at those two factories receive it. If you are hired into another part of the base, check whether a bonus applies to your role.

It is paid in two halves. New hires in those two factories receive half the bonus after completing one full month of work, and the other half in the second month.

The battery business does not offer it. The bonus does not cover Division 2, in the words of a recruiter there, so a worker choosing between a battery role and a welding role can compare the whole package, not only the bonus line.

In dollar terms, the maximum bonus works out to about $889 at the rate of 6.7459 yuan to the dollar used in that story.

Why Is the Xi'an Base Hiring Now?

The hiring follows production line changes at the base. Feng said the switch to the second generation Blade Battery and line upgrades limited output of several models in the first half, and that the base reduced staffing for a time, with some employees moved to expanding sites in Zhengzhou, Hefei and the Shenzhen-Shanwei cooperation zone.

Shaanxi's vehicle output in the first half of 2026 fell 47.7% year on year on National Bureau of Statistics data. In August the province produced 138,900 vehicles, up 55.4% from July and 17.9% from a year earlier.

BYD chairman Wang Chuanfu has linked the company's sales this year to battery output, after a period in which capacity for the second generation Blade Battery was still ramping up. Wang said BYD will work to raise production capacity for that battery.

Feng said all four parks at the base, High-tech, Caotang, Jixian and Xixian, are back on normal production schedules, and he links the recruitment to production ramping up after the line change.

How Are Exports Linked to the Hiring?

BYD's overseas sales rose 134.5% year on year to 189,466 vehicles in August, a record for the company, while domestic sales fell 14.3%. Total sales for the month were 440,293, its highest monthly figure this year.

In its own filing to the Hong Kong exchange, the company put its new energy vehicle exports at 180,538 units for July 2026, and it flagged those volumes as unaudited.

The Xi'an base builds high volume Dynasty and Ocean models and some premium brands. Feng said the labour gap appeared as schedules recovered and export orders surged. In his view, export models have full production schedules while models for the domestic market face strong competition, which makes a return to the peak annual output of recent years difficult.

The company has also given an update on its overseas plants. In an investor relations record dated 10 September, the company said its plants in Thailand, Uzbekistan and Brazil are built and in production, and that work on plants under construction is being accelerated. It added that local manufacturing is an important part of its global strategy, with timing shaped by local policy, supply chains and construction schedules.

What Does BYD Say About Pay, Training and Promotion?

The company's own interim filing gives the wider picture. BYD employed approximately 911.9 thousand employees as at 30 June 2026, and total staff cost accounted for approximately 17.9% of its turnover in the period.

In the filing, remuneration is set on performance, qualifications and prevailing industry practices, with pay policies reviewed regularly, and bonuses may be awarded based on annual performance appraisal.

On growth, the company describes training channels for management, technology, skills and specialties, delivered through case teaching, a mentorship system, the Tiejun training camp and on the job practice. For a line worker, the skill level certification is the part to ask about at interview.

The filing describes the aim of this system as building a fair and just talent development platform, with career paths in management, technology, skills and specialties.

The filing also says the continuous increase in production capacity of the second generation Blade Battery is expected to strengthen the group's growth momentum.

Employees' remuneration was determined based on performance, qualifications and prevailing industry practices, in the words of the BYD interim filing.

What This Means for Factory Workers, and What Should You Do Next?

For skilled line workers in and around Xi'an, this is a recruitment across five sites, with a posted pay ceiling and a joining bonus at two factories. The most useful step is to match your trade to the right division and site, then confirm the terms of your own offer before you start.
